PAKISTAN: Branchless Banking Regulations Released

Approved regulations released for undertaking "branchless banking" in Pakistan.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued regulations for "branchless banking" (the provision of banking services outside of bank branches using non-bank actors such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and mobile network operators). Under the new regulations, commercial banks, Islamic banks, and microfinance banks will all be permitted to enter into arrangements with such non-bank actors in order to increase access to finance in areas where many Pakistanis remain unserved by traditional bank branches.

The new regulations are available here.
