SOUTH AFRICA: New Cooperative Banking Bill Released
A new bill that will increase access to financial services in South Africa.
The Co-operative Banking Bill 2007, passed by the National Assembly, will allow low income earners access to banking services. This bill intends to do the following:
- Promote Access to Financial Services
- Provide Formal Regulation and Supervision to Co-operative Banks
- Create a Development Framework for Co-operative Banks
- Establish a Deposit Insurance Fund for Co-operative Banks
