Economist with 30 years expereince in poverty projects. Pioneered the study of MF with the publicaton of 'Where Credit is Due' in 1991. Have since specialised in assessment and design of MF for successful delivery of MF based escape routes from poverty. Most recent work experience has been in China, Iran and central Asia. MF strategic policy development, needs assessment, training and product design have been additional areas of my professional involvement in MF. |

Empowerment and Microfinance for Poverty Reduction, Intensive Training for Senior Development Officials from the Mekong Region
Designed and presented a intensive training program, to a class of 50 officials from Cambodia, , China (Yunnan), Laos, Myanma, Thailand, and Vietnam. Classes included theoretical background, basic economics of microfinance and poverty analysis, a review of key stakeholders and resource providers, and classes on practical aspects and case studies of participatory approaches to microfinance for sustainable poverty reduction.

Enhancing Beneficiary Participation in Asian Development Bank Loan Projects in Central Asia Field visits and consultations to assess mechanisms by which target beneficiary participation in ADB Loan programs can be strengthened in activity design (including MF), component implementation and progress monitoring. Identify local case studies to illustrate opportunities (one in MF), and design mechanisms for stakeholders to consider alternative strategies to enhance the pro-poor and gender sensitive qualities of proposed ADB loan programs
Consultant & Team Leader for MicroCredit for Rural Women in Poor Areas of Iran, Ministry of Agriculture and Women’s Bureau, Iran (January 2004)
Presented a keynote paper to the national conference on micro-credit for rural women for rural poverty reduction. Designed and facilitated a five day national workshop of public sector MF stakeholders. Participated in a three day field visit to examine extant rural credit programs accessible by women in rural Iran.

Resource person on the experiences of NGOs in government-NGO partnerships, including MF, frameworks for capacity and needs assessment, design of strategies for competitive tendering and templates for calls for Expressions of Interest. Assist in facilitation of project inception workshop, field visit for pilot project (including one in MF) planning purposes, and drafting of inception report.
