What can be done to alleviate the challenges faced by NGOs in their attempts to reduce poverty?

The paper states that BRAC strives to achieve its goal of poverty alleviation and empowerment of the poor through a number of programs. The most significant of these are the Human Development Program, Health Program, and Educational Program. It further states that although BRAC has been regarded to have an integrated development program, the implementation makes its program a package of programs rather than an integrated whole. Specifically, it looks at:

  • The features and programmes in the BRAC approach;
  • Partners of NGOs;
  • Sustainability of the programmes;
  • NGOs and the poverty reduction effort in Bangladesh.
Concludes that Bangladesh still faces terrible challenges as millions of people live in absolute poverty, have no access to health services, and many adult women are illiterate. Recommends effective programs in poverty reduction efforts by NGOs.
